Manteno
The first Kankakee County exit, and one of the best value plays on the corridor.
Manteno is the first exit past the county line, and that line is the point: property taxes drop when you cross from Will into Kankakee County, and Manteno is the first town that collects the discount.
It has its own district, Manteno CUSD 5, a compact downtown, and the Illinois Veterans Home on the north side, one of the village's oldest institutions.
Eight minutes from Peotone and one exit from everything, it is the corridor's clearest value play and the town Nick shows first when the budget is tight and the school question matters.
