Beecher
Quiet, affordable, and closer to Indiana than to Chicago.
Beecher has thrown the same Fourth of July festival at Firemen's Park since 1913, which tells you most of what you need to know about how this village works.
It sits on Route 1, the old Dixie Highway, closer to the Indiana line than to Chicago, and it was named for the preacher Henry Ward Beecher when it incorporated out of Washington Township in 1870. There is a golf course, Cardinal Creek, on the edge of town.
Beecher runs its own school district, 200-U, and prices here stay friendlier than anything comparable to the north.
